HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's soccer team reached the "win" column for the first time this season with a thrilling 2-1 road victory over Huntington (Ind.) on Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 20).

The Pomeroys improve to 1-1 on the young season while Huntington fell to 0-1 in their season opener.

Huntington's Jianna Simons off the assist by Sophie Shepherd staked them to an early 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of play. But SMWC had the fast answer when freshman Lois Carr -- from South Bend, Ind. -- found the back of the net to level the score at 1 in the match's 15th minute.

The two teams played even until late in the contest when senior Kennedy Trigg -- a native of Greencastle, Ind. -- broke the stalemate with her first goal of the season in the 80th minute to surge the Pomeroys ahead 2-1.

SMWC would hold on through the final 10 minutes of action to claim the 2-1 victory.

Despite Huntington holding a 9-5 edge in shots -- shots on goal were level with three each. 

Lauren Rindone picked with the victory in goal as she faced three shots on goal and produced a pair of saves. 

Trigg posted a pair of shots of target including the game winning goal. Carr had a pair of shots also including the first SMWC goal of the season. Kaylee Lowe added another shot for the Pomeroys.

SMWC will host Grace College (Ind.) on Saturday, August 24 in the home opener at the SMWC Soccer Complex. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. (ET).
