Jim Walker has been the head softball coach for three seasons.
Walker led the Pomeroys to back-to-back River States Conference Tournament championships in 2022 and 2023. The Pomeroys advanced to the NAIA National Championships in the program's first two seasons as a member of the NAIA.
Walker took the lead of a softball program with proven success featuring 91 USCAA All-Academic Team Members, 49 USCAA All-Americans, 12 National Championship teams, five (5) USCAA National Award Winners, and a program winning percentage of .629 (660-388).
Professional Experience
Coach Walker served as the Associate Head Softball Coach at Carlow University from 2006-11. He then joined NCAA Division II Wheeling Jesuit University for one season. He was named the Head Softball Coach of the Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2013, while he also served as athletic department's NCAA Compliance Officer and Director of Recruiting. From 2015-18, he also served as an Assistant Coach with the Pennsylvania Rebellion, a professional fastpitch softball team from Washington, Penn.
Coach Walker turned the Lady Barons softball program into a conference championship contender upon his arrival becoming responsible for 60 of the program's 68 all-time wins. He coached 13 NFCA Scholar-Athletes and 10 PAC All-Conference student-athletes.
He was named the 2017 AMCC Coach of the Year and is the winningest head coach in Franciscan University of Steubenville softball history. He coached the 2018 NCAA Division III Team Leader in Stolen Bases, the 2019 Fifth Place NCAA Division III Team Leader in Stolen Bases, 2016 NPF Playoff team, 2019 AMCC Conference-Runner Up team, and 2019 ECAC Regional team.
He is a member of the Miracle League of Pittsburgh, the National Federation Coaches Association, and is a Certified ASA Softball Umpire and a Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach.
Personal
Walker earned his Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Psychology from Argosy University. He has two daughters Courtney and Caitlin. A native of Hookstown, Pennsylvania, he will soon be a resident of Vigo County.
