Saint Mary-of-the-Woods

Being a Student Athlete

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College was founded in 1840 by Saint Mother Theodore Guerin and the Sisters of Providence.

The College offers a value-centered, liberal arts education in a wide variety of majors and minors to prepare students for their careers. Their experience will be rich with individualized attention and student leadership opportunities. The institution takes pride in its commitment to academic excellence.

Our mission is to challenge students to think critically, become leaders and effect change through knowledge and virtue rooted in our Catholic foundation.

In our relationships and all that we do, we demonstrate a commitment to our values: social justice, spirituality, sustainability and gender equity.

Incoming Freshman
All incoming freshmen will be required to participate in two hours of study table each week. Learning Resource Center, tutoring and other academic services at The Woods are free and unlimited.

All student-athletes will be required to live on campus. We have two resident halls — the historic Le Fer Hall and the new residence hall, which is currently reserved for upperclassmen. In addition, our dining partner Bon Appetit offers special nutrition options for athletes.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College is committed to abiding by the rules set forth by the NAIA. The links below will provide you with valuable information as you prepare to join the SMWC Athletics family.
