SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team swept Berea College on Friday in a rematch from the 2015 USCAA National Championship. The Pomeroys are now 19-2 on the year.

Game 1

The first game was a 10 inning battle that was ultimately won by SMWC. Senior Sarah Burnham pitched a complete game to improve to 8-0 on the year. She held Berea to just two hits and struck out 14 batters in 10 innings of work. The winning run was driven in in the bottom of the 10th by junior Emma Riffe's double to left center to score sophomore Kelly Combs and secure the 1-0 victory. Riffe was the only Pomeroy to record more than one hit as she went 2-for-5, while five other Pomeroys each recorded a hit.

Game 2

Game two saw more points on the scoreboard, as sophomore Stephanie Richardson picked up her sixth win of the season. SMWC got the scoring started in the bottom of the third with four runs as sophomore Kerri Schrock, Riffe, Burnham and Combs all crossed home plate.

The Pomeroys then tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth off of a solo home run by Burnham, her ninth of the year. With the 5-0 lead heading into the top of the sixth, Berea scored three runs to tighten the game up. However, SMWC answered with five runs to effectively put the game on ice in the bottom of the sixth. The first run of the inning was scored by sophomore Jacklyn McClain after Yeager was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The next four runs came off of a grand slam by Burnham for her 10^th home run of the season, which ties for the single season record. Burnham had 10 home runs all last season to tie the single season record with Ashley Loomis from 2007.

SMWC's game with Cincinnati Clermont for tomorrow has been postponed due to field conditions in Cincinnati. The Pomeroys will now be back in action on April 6 as they hit the road to face Missouri Baptist.
