GARY, Ind. – The SMWC Men's Basketball lost to IU-Northwest 65-94 today in their final game of the semester. The team was led by
Damon Ogletree and
Jadyn McHugh with 14 points each, followed by
Shermar Moss with 12.
Game Summary
1st Half: The Pomeroys got out to a solid start, leading 8-6 early in the half before IU-Northwest would go on an 11-point run to take a 17-8 lead. Missed shots and turnovers would hurt SMWC as they would quickly find themselves in a 29-12 hole. The Red Hawks would go into the half up 39-23 over SMWC.
2nd Half: Both sides would go back and forth to start the 2
nd half, but the Pomeroys deficit would slowly grow as they found themselves down almost 30 midway through the half. The Pomeroys were again forced to take shots from deep to cut the Red Hawk lead but couldn't get a rhythm going and would close this one out 65-94.
By the Numbers
- Ogletree and McHugh led the team in scoring with 14 points with Moss adding 12 to round out the double-digit scorers for SMWC
- DeSilvia pulled down 6 rebounds and Jamarius Evans added 5. McHugh's 5 assists would pace the team, followed by Moss' and Cam Atchison's 4.
- The team had statistically one of their better shooting nights of the season, but still went just 27-62 from the field (43.5%) and 5-18 from deep (27.8%). The team went to the line 9 times and was able to add 6.
- The team is seeing improvement when it comes to fouls as they've committed 35 over their past three games, their best 3-game stretch of the season.
- The Pomeroys still struggle with turnovers as they've committed 246 this season (16.4 per game) compared to their opponents at 188.
