Pomeroys Split on Day One of Taylor Tournament

UPLAND, Ind.The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) women's volleyball team (1-2) battled Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Governors State University in Day One of the Amber McClure Fayerweather Memorial Tournament last night. They split matches on the day falling to Mount Vernon Nazarene and bouncing back to defeat Governors State in a five-set thriller to earn their first victory of the season.

  • The Pomeroys got off to a fast start, winning two straight sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-23
  • The Jaguars of Governors State would answer by winning the next two sets to even the game at two sets a piece.
  • The Pomeroys were able to pull out the victory by earning a gritty fifth set win by the score of 15-10
  • Hannah Zuege once again led the way in kills for the team, this time putting up 29 vs Governors State
  • Ariana Hernandez added 26 assists, bringing her total to 41 on the day between the two games
  • Jocelyn Rivas-Chavez racked up 30 digs to lead the way for the Pomeroys

What's Next?
The women's volleyball team is back on the court today for two more matches. SMWC will battle the University of St. Francis (IL) at 9:00 a.m. ET, and Bluefield College (VA) at 11:30 a.m. ET for Day Two of the Amber McClure Fayerweather Memorial Tournament.
