Men's Soccer Defeats IU East in 2OT Thriller, Women's Soccer Falls 0-4

SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, IN.The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) men's and women's soccer teams were both in action at home today against the Red Wolves of Indiana University East (IUE). The men's team won a double-overtime thriller 1-0, while the women's team fell 0-4 to the Red Wolves.

How it Happened / Men's Soccer
1st Half: Both teams were playing very strong defensively, with only 7 combined shots on goal in the first half. The game would remain scoreless at halftime.
2nd Half: With both teams battling for the victory, the game would start to get a little chippy with a combined 12 fouls and 3 yellow cards in the second half. The game still stayed scoreless and would move into overtime.
OT: Both team's defenses would remain stingy in the first overtime with only 2 shots taken on goal, and still, the game remained scoreless. But less than a minute into the second overtime after a Pomeroy shot on goal, an IU East player would accidentally score on his own goal, ending the game and sealing the 1-0 victory for the Pomeroys.
 
How it Happened / Women's Soccer
1st Half: The first half was a tightly contested battle for nearly the entire period, but IU East would strike with less than 20 seconds remaining in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
2nd Half: The Red Wolves would continue to add to their lead in the second half, scoring goals in the 57th, 59th, and 73rd minute to put the game out of reach.

What's Next?
The women's team will be back in action at home against Iowa Wesleyan this Sunday, September 26th at 3:30 p.m. ET while both the men's and women's soccer teams will be on the road against Oakland City University at 1:00 pm E.T. (W) and 3:30 pm E.T. (M)
