Women's Soccer Falls to Harris-Stowe 1-0

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) women's soccer team (0-1) fell to Harris-Stowe State University in their season opener 1-0. The Pomeroys struggled to get their offense going but newcomer and Sophomore Madison Payne fought for a couple of shots, unable to break through for the goal. Harris-Stowe broke the 0-0 tie in the 20th minute and were able to hold SMWC there for the rest of the match. The Pomeroys fought hard defensively and Junior Goalkeeper Kaylee Thaler put on an excellent display saving 11 shots on goal.

Scoring Summary

HSSU | Malou Hagedorn | 19:50

How it Happened

1st Half: Harris-Stowe came out strong and physical and found early scoring opportunities quickly. Keeper Kaylee Thaler resisted the onslaught, making it look easy until the 19:50 when Harris-Stowe netted their first goal by Malou Hagedorn. The Pomeroys would be forced to continue playing defense as HSSU continued to dominate the offensive side of the ball.

2nd Half: The second half would see a very different Pomeroy team as they looked to play catch-up. Only down a goal, the Pomeroys took more shots and were able to draw more fouls this half. A great defensive display by SMWC throughout but in the end, they just couldn't pull out the draw as they would fall 1-0 in their home opener.
