Saint Mary-of-the-Woods women's basketball seeks to continue a strong start to the 2022-23 season on Saturday at IU East in the River States Conference opener for the Pomeroys.
Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Richmond, Ind.
Coach Terry Bowe's team has been led in scoring by three different players during a 4-0 start, with Brooklynn Jones coming off the bench to lead the team in the most recent two wins.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to open up on the road in the RSC and carry the momentum of a 4-0 start," Bowe said. "We understand this is a much bigger test but we are poised to take on this challenge."
Freshman Samara Douglas is averaging 12 points. Sophomore Abby Worley is directing the offense.
The Pomeroys are getting the job done with defense and rebounding.
IU East (1-6, 1-0 RSC) is coming off a 76-65 win against IU Kokomo after a tough early-season schedule that included a loss at NCAA Division I Ball State and to No. 11-ranked Indiana Wesleyan (95-56).
"We understand this must be a collective and unified effort that starts on the defensive side of the ball," Bowe said. "We are asking a lot out of our leaders and of our younger players who have proven early on that they can be contributors."
