ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The SMWC Softball team came to play against Harris-Stowe State University yesterday as they obliterated the competition 18-0 and 15-0. The team was flawless on the mound and at the plate with Sophomore
Summer Rocha tossing a perfect game in game one while adding 12 strikeouts and
Gracie Ables,
Adyson Baber, and
Graycee Ansari throwing a combined no hitter in game two. Offensively, the team combined for 33 runs through the two games.
Game One
The Pomeroys got out to a fast start capitalizing on Harris-Stowe errors.
Camryn Scott led off the scoring with a run off a wild pitch and back to back doubles by
Lyric Krause and Riley Bennett would give SMWC a quick 3-0 lead. The scoring didn't stop there as a hit batter and two more doubles would give the Pomeroys an 8-0 lead in the first inning. Obviously Harris-Stowe couldn't get anything going against starter
Summer Rocha who would strike out the side in the bottom of the first and 7 through the first three innings. SMWC would slowly pile it on adding two more runs in the 2nd and seven in the 3rd.
Josie Lord would draw the walk in the 4th inning to score the 18th run and end the ballgame there.
Player-of-the-Game: Summer Rocha's perfect game and 12 strikeouts was her most dominant performance of her career so far and led the team to their most lop-sided victory of the season.
Game Two
SMWC saw how well it worked it game one and said let's do it again in game two. More walks and wild pitches by Harris-Stowe would allow the Pomeroys to open the first with a 9-0 lead. Freshman starter
Gracie Ables would complete two innings of work, striking out two and not allowing a runner.
Adyson Baber would take over in the 3rd inning and toss two scoreless innings of her own, striking out three and walking one.
Graycee Ansari would wrap up the 4th striking out the side and giving the team a combined no-hitter. One more run in the 2nd and five in the fourth would wrap this one up and complete a stellar day by the Pomeroys.
Player-of-the-Game: A three-way tie between Ables, Baber, and Ansari who tossed a combined no-hitter to cap off the Pomeroys' incredible day.
