KANSAS CITY, MO. -- Saint Mary-of-the-Woods' women's volleyball team started its fall season with two victories, in a triangular matchup at Avila University against host Avila and Baker University.
The Pomeroys opened Saturday's action with a 26-28, 25-20, 25-14, 25-21 win against Avila University as
Hannah Zuege racked up 21 kills, while freshman
Amari Morales posted 36 assists to go with four aces.
SMWC followed with another solid effort to post a 25-16, 22-25, 18-25, 25-16, 15-6 victory against Baker.
Zuege had another 13 kills to go with four blocks, followed by seven by Shirley Marina and six by
Amber Doyle. Rivas-Chavez had six service aces and 18 digs.
"What an incredible day," SMWC coach
Ashley Harris said. "I was blown away by the fight this team showed today. We played pretty well vs. Avila, then started to run out of gas vs. Baker. Today took a total team effort to go 2-0, but that's the way we built this team, to have depth, and strength in numbers."
