Alice Lloyd, coming off a 76-73 loss to RSC West-Division leader IU Kokomo, was on a mission to bounce back Saturday against visiting Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
The Eagles drilled a season-high 12 3-pointers on their way to an 89-60 victory against the Pomeroys, who suffered a sixth straight loss.
The Pomeroys got off to a strong start.
Dakota Sampson drilled a 3-pointer to break a 6-6 tie four minutes into the action.
Luke Brower, who finished with a team-high 13 points, connected on a jumper to put SMWC ahead 11-6 with 15:18 to go in the first half.
Alice Lloyd answered with a 10-2 run over the next 3:09. A bucket by
Davin Miller and a dunk from
Keith Germain put SMWC back ahead, 17-16, at the 10:57 mark. Sampson scored again for SMWC to take a 19-16 lead.
The Eagles' Jacob Curry then connected on his first of three 3-pointers over the next three minutes to lead Alice Lloyd to a 28-19 lead. The SMWC defense settled in the next four minutes, but Alice Lloyd finished the first half with a flourish. Bryce Slone hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cap a 10-0 run for the Eagles, making it a 40-22 deficit for SMWC.
Alice Lloyd scored 11 points in the first 3:27 of the second half to put the Pomeroys in an insurmountable 57-30 hole.
Miller chipped in 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field. SMWC's top two scorers,
Keith Germain and
Tarik Dixon, were held to four points apiece. Germain had team-highs of three assists and three blocked shots.
SMWC returns to action Thursday at home against Point Park.
