Brooklynn Jones had 21 points and Abbi Parker shot 5-for-5 from 3-point range on her way to 17 points, but Saint Mary-of-the-Woods dropped a 75-63 game to Alice Lloyd in women's college basketball action Saturday at Perry Center.
The host Eagles (14-4, 7-3 River States Conference) shot 45.6 percent overall and 38.9 percent from 3-point range in the win. Alice Lloyd hit 3 of 5 from beyond the arc in the opening quarter to jump out to a 23-16 lead. Katie Jo Moore posted nine of her game-high 23 points in the second quarter as the Eagles stretched their lead to 42-28.
Hannah Kash chipped in 20 for the Eagles, and Bailee Brainard added 16 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots.
The Pomeroys (11-7, 3-7 RSC) allowed 19 offensive rebounds in 16 second-chance points.
SMWC stepped up its play in the second half. The Pomeroys limited the Eagles to 15 points in the third quarter, holding the Eagles to 6-of-17 shooting in the period. Jones and Parker combined for 10 of the team's 16 points.
The Pomeroys' solid play continued in the fourth quarter. They held Alice Lloyd to 41 percent shooting, and
Avalee Jeffers led the SMWC offense. The senior forward posted seven of her eight points.
SMWC returns to action Thursday at home against Point Park.
