Keith Germain and
J.R. Lumsden scored in double figures, but Saint Mary-of-the-Woods fell to 6-10 overall and 1-5 in the River States Conference against a hot-shooting Ohio Christian squad by a score of 92-73.
The host Trailblazers hit 50.7 percent from the field and 55 percent (11 for 20) from 3-point range as seven different Trailblazers connected behind the arc.
The Pomeroys got off to a promising start as Dixon, who finished with a team-high 17 points and four steals, connected on back-to-back mid-range jumpers to put SMWC ahead 10-8 with 13:45 on the first-half clock.
But the Trailblazers then found their shooting touch.
Jimmy Salamone, Christopher Richardson and Will Morrison hit 3-pointers for a 19-10 lead by the 10:16 mark. The OCU lead ballooned to 24-10 by the 8:54 mark.
Germain's jumper at the 8:44 mark ended a five-minute scoring drought for SMWC. Germain added another basket after SMWC got a couple stops at the defensive end, but Salamone answered seconds later with another triple.
Germain, who finished with 12 points, hit two more jumpers by the 5:45 mark to keep SMWC within 34-18. The Pomeroys' defense held OCU in check momentarily, but the Trailblazers put up 11 points in the final 3:45 of the half to head into the locker room wit ha 45-24 advantage.
In the second half, OCU remained hot to build its lead to 65-39 by the 12:32 mark on a jumper by Titus Burns.
Dixon connected on a 3-pointer with 11:43 to go. The junior guard picked up a steal and set up
Davin Miller for a dunk.
Jesse Burdick converted on a jumper to get the margin within 65-46 after a 7-0 spurt.
OCU found the outside shooting touch again. Chapman Faulkner and Camden Primmer hit 3-pointers to get the OCU lead back to 74-50 with 8:55 remaining.
SMWC didn't get back within 20 points until Dixon hit two 3-pointers in the final minute.
The Pomeroys return to action Saturday against Rio Grande at 3 p.m.
