Oakland City, which lost to SMWC in a five-setter last month on its home floor, returned the favor with a 3-1 victory in Knoerle Center on Saturday.
SMWC fell behind 9-3 in the opening set but couldn't mount a rally. While SMWC bounced back with a 25-23 win in the second set, SMWC struggled to maintain that rhythm in the third, falling 25-14. Oakland City took the fourth set 26-24.
The loss drops the Pomeroys to 27-4 overall and 13-4 in the River States Conference in what could be an important outcome as the Pomeroys battle for seeding in the postseason tournament.
Hannah Zuege had 13 kills with an outstanding .342 hitting percentage, while
Karla Melendez added 11.
Alexis Keoho had a team-high 20 assists, while
Lillian Breaux added 17.
Defensively,
Jocelyn Chavez paced the Pomeroys with 24 digs.
Isabel Hansen,
Raymiah Allen and
Morgan Krause each had a pair of blocks.
The Pomeroys return to action Tuesday against IU East for Senior Night before concluding the regular-season Thursday at Midway.
