Box Score The SMWC women's basketball team was as close as a two-point deficit in the final minute of the third quarter against No. 13 University of The Cumberlands on Tuesday night, but the visiting Patriots pulled ahead in the final minutes for a 83-65 victory. 
The Pomeroys, now 0-3 against Top 25 NAIA opponents over the past three years, held their own against a quality opponent. 
Brooklynn Jones scored five points during an 11-2 spurt for SMWC late in the third quarter to trim the Pomeroys' deficit to two. 
But The Cumberlands started the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run to put the game away. 
SMWC was led by Madison Fueger with 21 points and six rebounds. Irye Gomez added 16 points off the bench, and Jones finished with 14 to put her in double figures for three straight games. Jones also had a team-high nine rebounds. 
Allyson Hardiek chipped in eight points and a pair of blocked shots. 
Abby Worley addedd six assists and three steals. 
SMWC plays host to IU East on Saturday in the River States Conference opener for the Pomeroys.
