SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball team was spectacular in a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Franklin College & the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Wednesday (Oct. 9) at the Knoerle Center.
The two wins for the Pomeroys improve their overall season record to 22-3. They will host a River States Conference matchup on Friday, October 11 when they host Shawnee State at 7 p.m. (ET). The match against Shawnee State is the annual Pink Out with all fans encouraged to wear Pink on Friday night.
Audrey Lee was the headliner for SMWC in the evening match as she recorded a school record nine service aces in the win over UHSP. The Pomeroys were victorious by set scores of 25-14, 25-6 and 25-14. Over the course of the two victories, the Pomeroys accounted for 29 services aces on the day.
Lisanel Rodriguez had the big night on the attack as she recorded 12 kills in the victory. In total the Pomeroys recorded 15 service aces in the win as
Sofia Soto added three and
Leishmarie Virella added two. Soto added three blocks and
Masa Pesic chipped in two net stoppers.
Lillian Breaux was credited with 11 set assists and Rodriguez added eight digs in the winning effort.
In the day's earlier contest, the Pomeroys downed Franklin College by a 3-0 sweep including set scores of 25-6, 25-15 and 25-21. In that victory,
Karla Melendez posted 13 kills while
Madison Hill added seven. Virella and Melendez posted four service aces each in that win as the Pomeroys tallied 14 as a team.
Alexis Keoho and
Aden Britt tallied 13 set assists each in the win while
Jocelyn Chavez chipped in with 12 digs.Â
In addition to the game on Friday night against Shawnee State, the Pomeroys will also host Alice Lloyd (Ky.) on Saturday, October 12 at Noon (ET) and Georgetown (Ky.) at 4 p.m. (ET). All games will be held in the Knoerle Center.Â
