KOKOMO, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball team battled toe-to-toe with No. 11 IU-Kokomo in the semifinals of the River States Conference semifinals before falling 3-1 on the road to the top seed in the league.
SMWC put together a 32-7 record in 2024 to set a new program record for wins in a single season. IU-Kokomo moves to the RSC Championship Match against IU-East on Saturday afternoon. The Pomeroys took the No. 4 seed in the tournament and won their quarterfinal match against Shawnee State on Tuesday night (Nov. 12) to finish with an 18-2 record inside the Knoerle Center.
Lisanel Rodriguez led the way with 13 kills while
Alex Hernandez and
Karla Melendez tallied 10 kills each.Â
Jocelyn Chavez wraps a storied career with 17 digs as she finishes with 1,934 career digs -- a new program record.
Isabel Hansen recorded eight total blocks in the contest to finish the year with 102 total blocks including a new single-season record of 48 block solos.
Alexis Keoho tallied 21 set assists while
Aden Britt posted 16.
Alexa Stiff recorded a pair of service aces in the contest.
The Pomeroys earned a 25-21 victory in the opening set as the led 23-21 late and took advantage of a pair of IU-Kokomo attack errors for the early advantage. It was back-and-forth the rest of the way with IU-Kokomo having to battle for wins by the scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-21 to advance to the championship match.
