HARRODSBURG, Ky. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball returned to the win column with a big 99-55 road victory over Campbellsville-Harrodsburg on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 14).
SMWC improved to 7-5 on the season and they will play on exhibition contest at Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday, December 19 at 7:30 p.m. (CT). The next regular season game for the Pomeroys will be inside the Knoerle Center on Saturday, January 4 at 3 pm (ET) when they host IU-Southeast in a River States Conference contest.
Iyre Gomez hit 6-of-8 from the field to lead the team with 15 points and was a perfect 3-of-3 from 3-point range.
Kylee Stepp connected on a trio of trifectas to score 13 points in victory.
Aubrey Burgess tallied 11 points while
Brooklynn Jones and
Madison Fueger posted 10 points each.
The Pomeroys hit over 50 percent of their shots from the field (37-of-71) and were 12-of-25 (48 percent) from 3-point range. They owned a 36-33 edge in the battle of the glass and had nine second chance points. Jones and Burgess led the way with five rebounds each. Gomez posted four steals while
Abby Worley posted six assists in the victory.
The defense limited Campbellsville-Harrodsburg to 18-of-48 shooting (7.5 percent) and forced 39 turnovers which they converted into 47 points. They held a 50-18 edge in points in the paint.
The Woods scored the first seven points of the game capped by a lay-up from
Samara Douglas and a Stepp 3-pointer in the waning seconds of the opening quarter gave the Pomeroys a 32-7 edge.
Worley's lay-up with 1:01 left in the second quarter led the way for the Pomeroys to lead 63-23 at the half.
Destiny Thomas closed the scoring with just over two minutes remaining with a 3-pointer for the 99-55 victory.
