The five Pomeroys' starters all scored at least 10 points Saturday as Saint Mary-of-the-Woods improved to 15-9 overall and 10-4 in the River States Conference with a 82-64 victory over Indiana University Kokomo.
The visiting Cougars looked like a team capable of an upset in the first quarter, taking a 19-14 lead, but the Pomeroys rounded into form in the second quarter.
SMWC shut down the Cougars in the second quarter, holding them to 4 of 16 shooting and forcing seven turnovers with its pressure defense.
Destiny Thomas had all 10 of her points in the second quarter and she capped the period with a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer.
Irye Gomez added seven to help propel the Pomeroys' offense.
Allyson Hardiek also began to take over the low block, grabbing six rebounds and scoring four points during the period.
Hardiek finished with 10 points, a season-best 11 rebounds and four blocked shots.
In the third quarter,
Madison Fueger had all 12 of her points and
Abby Worley dazzled with three of her team-best five assists on the day.
Brooklynn Jones paced SMWC overall with 16 points.
Abigail Parker chipped in seven points off the bench.
