OAKLAND CITY, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods women's basketball team relied on a 25-point fourth quarter to charge back into contention before falling 74-66 at Oakland City University in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday afternoon.
Brooklynn Jones led four Pomeroys in double figures with 15 points, eight rebounds and three assists.Â
Allyson Hardiek added 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Other double-figure scorers included
Destiny Thomas with 11 points, six rebounds and three assists; and
Irye Gomez with 11 points and a team-high four assists.Â
Madison Fueger added nine points and 10 rebounds, and
Kylee Stepp scored six points off the bench for SMWC.
Emilee Hope led the Oakland City ofense with 22 points, and Kyrisha Hay added 21 points for the Mighty Oaks.
SMWC shot 53% in the first quarter and 53% in the fourth quarter to start and finish the game with 20+ point quarters. SMWC also held Oakland City to just 37% from the field and 29% from beyond the 3-point arc in the contest.
Oakland City caps the regular season with a 21-6 record and a 17-1 mark in River States Conference play, while Saint Mary-of-the-Woods stands 18-10 and 13-5 in league games. Both teams will receive a bye to quarterfinal round competition in the RSC Tournament and will start their pursuit of a conference tournament championship on Wed. Feb. 28. The bracket for the RSC Championship will be released late Saturday night.
