The hyper-focused SMWC men's basketball team continues to stay honed in on the job at hand; the Pomeroys put a complete performance together Saturday to dominate Oakland City for a 99-52 victory.
SMWC (17-5, 11-1 RSC) maintains its perch atop the River States Conference standings with six games remaining.
The Pomeroys, the No. 1 team in the league in points allowed, held the Mighty Oaks to a season-low point total and a season-worst field-goal percentage (30.3 percent).
SMWC was pretty good when it had the ball as well.
The Pomeroys led 22-6 within nine minutes after
Tarik Dixon connected on a 3-pointer.
The 3-pointers kept coming.
Greg Johnson drilled three of the Pomeroys seven first-half 3-pointers, and
Cobie Barnes joined Dixon with two.
The Pomeroys led 53-27 by halftime, shooting 55.9 percent overall and 58 percent from 3-point range.
Jesse Burdick was a big spark in the first half as well with seven points and four of his five rebounds.
Dixon finished with 18 points, tying his season-high with five 3-pointers. The senior was one of six players to reach double figures.
Cobie Barnes had 20,
Chaz Birchfield, Johnson and
Greg Jenkins each scored 11, while
DaMeriz Merriweather added 10 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.
