Pomeroy Softball Runs Win Streak To 12 With Sweep Of Brescia

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – The St. Mary-of-the-Woods softball team kept their winning ways going with a pair of victories on Saturday afternoon against Brescia (Ky.). The took the opening game in a slugfest with a 10-4 victory and won the second game 8-0 in five innings.

The Woods improved to 16-8, 9-3 RSC while Brescia fell to 2-17, 1-11 RSC. SMWC is now on a 12-game winning streak with the pair of victories.

SMWC got behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning when they allowed a run on a wild pitch but came in the bottom half of the frame with three runs. Justyce Rohrabaugh would reach on an error at second base which scored Abbi Henderson who moved into scoring position with a pair of stolen bases. Jaselyn Conn then doubled to score Rohrabaugh before Lyric Krause sacrifice fly drove in Conn for the 3-1 lead.

Uken would single to score Sowders in the top of the second inning to get the Bearcats within 3-2. Brescia knotted the game at three in the top of the third before the Pomeroy bats heated back up in the bottom of the fourth. Navaeh Pender doubled down the line to bring home Kinzer and Crawford for the 5-3 advantage.

Rohrabaugh stole second in the bottom of the fifth inning and then came around to score to make it 6-3 when the throw went all the way to centerfield wall. Kinzer then recorded a RBI single to score Conn to stretch the lead out to 7-3. Abby Broughton would then come around on a wild pitch to give the Pomeroys three runs in the frame and the 8-3 lead.

In the sixth inning, Rohrabaugh posted a double to centerfield before Conn ripped one down the left field line to score Rohrabaugh to extend the lead to 9-3. Conn would come around to score for the 10-3 lead on a ground out from Krause. Brescia tacked on a run in the top of the seventh inning as the Pomeroys earned the 10-4 victory.

Emily Fitzwater came into the game in relief to earn the victory as she posted 4.1 innings with six hits allowed and no earned runs allowed. Fitzwater struck out two Bearcats in the victory. Summer Rocha pitched the first 2.2 innings allowing six hits and striking out three.

Conn was 3-for-3 at the plate with a RBI and three runs scored. Pender drove in a pair as she Krause. Kinzer enjoyed a 2-of-3 outing at the plate with one run scored and one RBI. The Woods stole six bases in the contest, including a pair from Abbi Henderson.

In the nightcap, the Pomeroys jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Krause reached on a single to drive home Conn and then Crawford posted a RBI single to score Krause to make it 2-0.

Pender started off the bottom of the third inning with a double and then scored when Ruby Gray doubled down the left field line to stretch the lead out to 3-0. Gray would come around to score when Henderson doubled into the right field gap and the Pomeroys led 4-0. After a fielder's choice cut down a runner at third, Krause recorded a RBI single which moved Conn over to third and brough Rohrabaugh home to score and the lead stood at 5-0. Crawford picked up a RBI on an infield single which pushed Conn home and out two runners into scoring position as SMWC led 6-0. Kinzer ended the contest with a RBI single to score Crawford and Broughton for the 8-0 victory.

Marin Jacobs picked up the victory for the Pomeroys as she went the distance allowing just two hits and no runs. Jacobs struck out three in the win.

At the plate, the Pomeroys' Conn, Krause and Crawford each went 2-of-3 at the plate while Crawford and Kinzer each recorded a pair of RBI.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods returns to action on Wednesday, March 27 when they host Saint Xavier (Ill.) for a pair of games beginning at 3 pm (ET).
