Lyric Krause Blasts A Pair Of 3-Run Homers In Sweep Of Midway (Ky.)

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- Lyric Krause blasted a three-run homer to solidify the Pomeroys victory over visiting Midway (Ky.) in the day's opening game and then drilled another three-run homer in the first inning of the second contest en route to a sweep by the scores of 6-2 & 3-0.

The Pomeroys are now 23-12 and 16-5 inside RSC play. Midway moves to 14-18 (12-10 RSC).

In the opener, Midway got off to a 1-0 lead before the Pomeroys came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Maddie Smith doubled to left field to score Naveah Pender to level the score and then Annika Hannigan singled to right field to score Smith for the 2-1 advantage. In the fourth inning, Justyce Rohrabaugh singled to score Jaliegh Crawford for the 3-1 lead. After Midway made it 3-2 with another run in the fifth inning, Lyric Krause blasted a three run homer to dead center field which score Jaselyn Conn and Jasmine Kinzer for the 6-2 victory.

Krause would drive in three runs in the first contest while Maddie Smith was 2-of-3 at the plate with a run scored and a RBI. Ruby Gray was 2-of-2 at the dish in the contest. The Pomeroys notched a pair of stolen bases in the victory.

In the circle, Marin Jacobs picked up her ninth win of the season, scattering seven hits over 4.2 innings of work and striking out two. Emily Fitzwater picked up the save by workign the final 2.1 innings allowing no hits or runs and striking out a pair.

In the second game, Lyric Krause struck again with another three-run homer – this time down the left field line – to score Conn and Kinzer for the early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Summer Rocha wiggled out of a jam in the top of the fourth as Midway loaded the bases with two outs but Rocha forced a ground out to end the threat and maintain the three run lead.

At the plate, Krause was 1-for-1 at the plate with 3 RBI and drew a pair of walks. Kinzer finished 2-of-3 at the plate.

Rocha picked up the victory by tossing a complete game – seven innings – allowing just six hits and no runs with a pair of strikeouts.

The Pomeroys will travel to Ohio Christian College on Tuesday, April 16 for a RSC doubleheader beginning at Noon (ET). Immediately following the doubleheader – which is a rain out makeup from late March – the Pomeroys will conclude their previously suspended contest against West Virginia Tech. In that contest, the Woods is leading 12-2 in the bottom of the third inning. Live statistics and live video streaming will be provided on SMWCAthletics.com. There will be no video stream of the conclusion of the West Virginia Tech contest.
