HOWELL, Mich. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's soccer team dropped its season opening contest at Cleary (Mich.) University by the score of 2-0 on Saturday night (Aug. 17).
The Pomeroys fall to 0-1 on the season while Cleary begins their campaign with a 1-0 mark.
Cleary scored their first goal of the contest in the match's 21
st minute and came back with another in the 63
rd minute.
The Pomeroys recorded a total of eight shots in the contest – include a game-high two from
Mitchell Jay Stewart and
Taiwo Anifowose.
Vinicius Steger Pires,
Andoni Ybanez,
Marc Valderrama and
Marwan Jamoussi each recorded one shot for SMWC. The Woods was awarded a total of five corner kicks in the contest.
In goal for SMWC was
Harry Jackson who recorded eight saves in the contest.
SMWC will hold their home opening contest on Wednesday, August 21 when they host the University of St. Francis (Ill.) at 5 p.m. (ET) at the SMWC Soccer Complex.
