SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods women's volleyball team improved to a perfect 9-0 on the season after completing a 5-0 weekend at the Showdown in the Woods - Presented by the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau - on Saturday.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods defeated Franklin, Governors State and Clarke on a tripleheader Friday to open the weekend. Against Franklin,
Alex Hernandez led SMWC with 11 kills,
Alexis Keoho had 18 assists and
Jocelyn Chavez recorded 13 digs.Â
Against Governors State,
Karla Melendez led the Pomeroys with 14 kills and 20 digs.Â
Aden Britt contributed 28 assists to the effort. The Clarke match featured 11 kills from
Lisanel Rodriguez and 6 blocks from
Masa Pesic, along with 24 assists from
Ariana Cruz and 13 digs from Chavez.
On Saturday, SMWC continued its perfect season with a 4-set win over Boyce and a 3-set win over Lourdes.Â
Two school records were set over the course of the weekend.Â
Ashley Harris became the all-time leader in coaching victories for SMWC women's volleyball (78) and stands 78-27 as Pomeroys head coach.Â
Jocelyn Chavez also surpassed the previous career school record in digs by approaching the 1600 mark, surpassing 2020 graduate Pamela Dorman (1583).
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods will put its perfect 9-0 record on the line with a road match at University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis on Tuesday.
