SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball team found themselves down two sets to one but surged ahead late on the strength of a strong attack percentage to earn a 3-2 victory over visiting Oakland City University inside the Knoerle Center in River States Conference action.
SMWC won the match with sets scores of 16-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-16 and 15-8. The Pomeroys improved to 17-2 on the season, including a mark of 1-2 in RSC play while Oakland City fell to 6-10, 1-3 RSC.
Tori Schopmeyer paced the Pomeroys with 14 kills on 27 attempts for an attack percentage of .259.
Karla Melendez was right behind with 13 kills.
Alexis Keoho led the Pomeroys with 23 kills while
Grace Geisler tallied a pair of service aces. Melendez posted 15 digs in the match while
Jocelyn Chavez tallied 14.

Oakland City trailed 17-16 in set three but scored five points in a row to take control of the match at 2-1. But SMWC did not quit and took control the rest of the way. Tied at 14-all in the fourth set, the Pomeroys scored six of the next seven points to take a 20-15 advantage. They would then score five of the final six points in the set capped by a kill from Schopmeyer for the 25-16 victory. All told, SMWC scored 11 of the final 13 points of the set to go to a fifth set decider.
There it was all Pomeroys as SMWC scored each of the first seven points and ended it with a 15-8 victory on another one of Schopmeyer's team-leading 14 kills.
The Pomeroys return to action on Friday, September 27 when they travel to IU-Columbus. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. (ET).
