SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College's men's volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Rockford University Saturday afternoon (Jan. 25) at the Knoerle Center, wrapping up a strong 4-1 showing at the SMWC Invitational.
The Pomeroys (4-1) dropped the opening set 25-22 but bounced back in dominant fashion, taking the next three sets 25-18, 25-22, and 25-20 to seal the match. Rockford (0-3) struggled with consistency, hitting just .203 for the match while the Pomeroys improved to .252.
Noah Boyett led Saint Mary-of-the-Woods with eight kills, including four service aces. Andrej Lindner and Josh Stembridge each added seven kills apiece. Kristofers Klavins dished out 26 assists and added six digs in a well-rounded performance.
On the defensive side, Stembridge posted a team-high eight digs, while Ryan Banister, Klavins, and Stembridge each contributed a block.
Isaiah Dixon had a strong showing for Rockford with 15 kills and three service aces, and Tsubasa Namai registered 24 assists.
SMWC will next take on Buffalo State in the Bethany Tri-Match on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. ET.
