Box Score NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team fell 104-79 in its season opener. The Pomeroys fell on the road to Indiana University-Southeast on Tuesday night.
The Pomeroys had three players record double digit points in the first game of the 2014-15 season. Freshman Tara Parmer led the way with 14 points, while junior Desiree Irizarry recorded 13 points and senior Alaura McKemie notched 10 points. Defensively, junior Shelby Parmer led the Pomeroys with six steals, while the Pomeroys notched 20 total steals on the evening.
In the first half, the Pomeroys fell behind by double figures with 13:29 to play and went into the break trailing IU-Southeast, 55-29. The Pomeroys shot 25 percent from both the field and three-point range through the first half. McKemie led SMWC in the first half, as she recorded all 10 of her points. Sophomore JaBreena Gardner recorded three assists in the first 20 minutes.
In the second half, Irizarry and T. Parmer led the Pomeroys, as each recorded eight points. SMWC played better in the final 20 minutes, as they scored 50 points and shot 38 percent (17-of-45) from the floor and 40 percent (6-of-15) from three-point range. However, in spite of SMWC's improved second half, the Pomeroys fell 104-79.
SMWC finished the game shooting 32 percent (28-of-88) from the floor and 31 percent (11-of-35) from three-point range.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on Wednesday, when they travel to Southern State for their final game of the week.
