Box Score OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College basketball team fell to Brescia University on Saturday, 94-79. It was the second time the Pomeroys had faced the Bearcats, and SMWC had the same result this time around and moved to 3-9 on the year.
The Pomeroys had three players record double figures with junior Grace Ziegler leading the way with 16 points. Not far behind were junior Sierra Lopez and sophomore JaBreena Gardner who both went for season-highs with 15 points each. Lopez tied with freshman Tara Parmer for the team lead in rebounds with seven.
The Bearcats outscored the Pomeroys 50-33 in the first half by shooting 45 percent (18-of-40) from the field compared to SMWC's 34 percent (13-of-38). The Bearcats also got to the line more in the first 20 minutes as they shot 69 percent (9-of-13) from the free throw line compared to SMWC's 28 percent (2-of-7).
The Pomeroys outperformed the Bearcats in the second half with 46 second half points compared to Brescia's 44. The Pomeroys cut Brescia's second half lead to five at one point, however, it was too little too late and the Bearcats held off SMWC.
