Box Score OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team fell to Brescia University on Monday night, 115-97.
The Pomeroys were led in scoring by senior Shelby Parmer's 22 points, while sophomore Tara Parmer wasn't far behind with 19 points. Junior Kennedy Nelson led the Pomeroys on the glass with nine rebounds, while freshman Jessica Wagers added five rebounds.
SMWC's defense forced the Bearcats to turn the ball over 25 times. Senior Grace Ziegler recorded a team-high four steals, while the Pomeroys recorded 18 steals as a whole.
The Pomeroys edged out the Bearcats 27-26 in the first quarter, and then BU came back and outscored SMWC 26-21 in the second quarter. The Pomeroys trailed 52-48 heading into halftime but came out and outscored BU in the third quarter 23-17. The Pomeroys took a 71-69 lead into the final quarter, but BU's offense was too much as they outscored SMWC 46-26 in the final 10 minutes of play.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on November 7 when they host Cincinnati Clermont in their home opener. The game is scheduled to tip at 2 p.m. in Hamilton Arena at the Knoerle Center.
