Box Score Oakland City, Ind. - The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College basketball team defeated Oakland City University on Wednesday night in a rematch from January 29. The Pomeroys move to 11-12 overall on the year with the 118-104 victory overall Oakland City.
Freshman Tara Parmer led the Pomeroys with a career-high 23 points, shooting 7-of-11 from 3-point range. The Pomeroys shot 44 percent (24-of-54) from 3-point range on Wednesday. SMWC's 24 made 3-pointers set a school record. Junior Shelby Parmer recorded 20 points, while junior Grace Ziegler scored 19 points with a 5-of-10 performance from 3-point range. Also in double figures, were sophomores NaShaunda Rayford, JaBreena Gardner and Mikayla Kinneer with 16, 15 and 11 points, respectively.
Gardner led the Pomeroys on the glass with nine rebounds, while tying junior Sierra Lopez and T. Parmer in assists with six. Senior Alaura McKemie recorded a game-high four steals.
The Pomeroys jumped out to an early 9-4 lead to start the game before the Lady Oaks tighten things up. With 14:48 to play in the first half, the Pomeroys and Lady Oaks were knotted up at 15. The Pomeroys then went on a 15-2 run to open up a 30-17 lead with 12:48 on the clock. A 3-pointer by T.Parmer with 8:41 on the clock gave the Pomeroys a 42-23 lead that would turn into a 56-51 Pomeroy advantage at halftime, after the Lady Oaks offense came alive in the final 8 minutes.
The second half, the Lady Oaks kept it close and tied the Pomeroys 63-63 with 16:59 left to play. The Pomeroys made 12 second half 3-pointers to build up their largest lead of the game, 23 points, with 6:26 to play. The Pomeroys closed out the Lady Oaks 118-104 to revenge a 93-73 loss to the Lady Oaks on January 29.
The Pomeroys shot 44 percent (24-of-54) from 3-point range and 46 percent (45-of-99) from the field. The Pomeroys forced the Lady Oaks to turn the ball over 25 times, leading to 39 points for the Pomeroys.
