Box Score SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The eighth-ranked Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team fell to fifth-ranked Berea College in Saturday's USCAA top 10 matchup in Hamilton Arena. The Pomeroys' 98-64 loss to the Mountaineers moves SMWC to 8-9 on the year and 4-1 in USCAA play.
Junior Bria Hill led the Pomeroys with her first double-double as a Pomeroy. Hill paired a career-high 12 points with a team-high 12 rebounds. Junior Ja'Breena Gardner notched 15 points, while senior Shelby Parmer recorded nine points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Pomeroys found themselves in a hole early, as they were outscored 21-9 in the first quarter and 29-12 in the second quarter. Down 50-21 at halftime, the Pomeroys came out in the second half and battled for the final two quarters. SMWC, however, wouldn't be able to overcome its first-half deficit. The Pomeroys were edged out by two points in the third, 25-23, and by three in the fourth, 23-20.
The Pomeroys forced 30 turnovers on the afternoon and recorded 15 steals as a whole, but Berea couldn't miss as they shot 59.2 percent (42-71) from the floor and 50 percent (5-of-10) from three-point range.
SMWC will now regroup and host USCAA DII #18 Andrews tomorrow at 3 p.m. The USCAA matchup will feature LIVE stats and video via the Pomeroys LIVE Portal.
