Box Score SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team fell to NCAA DII Oakland City in Wednesday's home finale, 84-72. The Pomeroys are now 12-13 overall and have two games left on the road at Rochester to finish out the 2015-16 regular season.
Senior Shelby Parmer led all Pomeroys in scoring with 14 points, while sophomore Tara Parmer was also in double figures with 11 points. T. Parmer led the team in assists with four, while junior Mikayla Kinneer grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Junior Na-Shaunda Rayford recorded five steals to lead all players on Wednesday night.
OCU scored the first nine points of the game in Hamilton Arena and went on to double up the Pomeroys 13-6 to start the first quarter. The Pomeroys then responded with a 9-0 run of their own to take the lead, 15-13. OCU would score last in the first quarter with back-to-back buckets to take a 17-15 lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter was won by the Pomeroys, as they outscored the Lady Oaks 24-14. With 6:12 to play in the half, it was all tied up at 23 before SMWC went on a 16-8 run and took a 39-31 lead into the break.
The Pomeroys couldn't get going in the third quarter as they were outscored 28-13 and found themselves in a 59-52 hole. The fourth quarter didn't offer any relief either, as the Pomeroys were outscored 25-20 in the final 10 minutes, falling to 5-6 at home on the year with the 84-72 defeat at the hands of OCU.
The Pomeroys will now hit the road to finish off the regular season. SMWC will travel to Rochester for two games this weekend. The Pomeroys are currently ranked eighth in the USCAA, while Rochester is sixth. With one game on Saturday and one game on Sunday, the Pomeroys will then have to wait until Feb. 24 to find out if they will make the USCAA National Tournament for a second straight year.
