Box Score 2 TITUSVILLE, Fla. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team went 1-1 on day two in Titusville, Fla., to move to 3-1 on the year.
The Pomeroys' first game of the day was against Shawnee State and was followed by Morrisville State. The Pomeroys rallied late but couldn't come back to beat SSU, as they fell 7-4. In game two, the Pomeroys improved from their game one performance to earn a 13-0 victory.
Game One
SMWC was slow out of the gate on Monday morning, as SSU kept SMWC off of the scoreboard for their first five innings. Through the first five innings, SSU scored seven runs to put the Pomeroys in a hole. The Pomeroys then got the bats going and started moving around the bases in the sixth and seventh, but it was too little too late. SMWC scored two runs in the sixth thanks to a double by senior Camille Ulery and a single by junior Kerri Schrock. Scoring in the sixth for SMWC were seniors Emma Riffe and Marlee Yeager.
The Pomeroys then made one last push in the bottom of the seventh, but could only come up with two more runs to fall 7-4. It was again Ulery and Schrock who drove in SMWC's runs with back to back singles to left field to score sophomore Baylee Waters and Riffe.
Ulery finished game one 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and one double. Senior Emma Riffe finished 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Schrock finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Junior Christian Chambers pitched the first four innings before junior Stephanie Richardson pitched the final three in SMWC's first loss of the season.
Game Two
The second game of the day was a five inning, eight run rule victory for the Pomeroys. SMWC scored four runs to start the game off in the bottom of the first. SMWC then followed that up with seven runs in the second and two runs in the third. Sophomores Hollie Jones, Nicole Niespodziany and Kindra Gingerich, as well as Riffe all scored two runs for the Pomeroys. The Pomeroys racked up 13 hits on their way to scoring 13 runs with both Riffe and junior Jacklyn McClain going a perfect 2-for-2.
Sophomore Taylor Andrew went the distance in game two, allowing just two hits and striking out four batters.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on Wednesday, March 8 when they face NAIA power Reinhardt in two evening games in Titusville, Fla.
