SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – The SMWC women's basketball team (10-8, 4-7) took on West Virginia University Institute of Technology (9-14, 7-5) Saturday afternoon. The Pomeroys did their best, but the Golden Bears would prove too much to handle as SMWC would fall 95-82. The Pomeroys had three in double figures, with 18 points from Sydney Ingram, and 10 from both Abby Worley and Destiny Thomas. The team would give up 30 to WVU Tech's Brittney Justice in a tough defensive night.
By The Numbers
- Sydney Ingram led the way with 18 points on 6 of 14 shooting from the field, and 4 for 8 from 3pt range.
- Abby Worley had a strong day, with 10 points to go along with 6 assists and Destiny Thomas also reached double figures with 10 points.
- Avalee Jeffers pulled down 7 rebounds, and Allyson Hardiek added 4 blocks.
- The Pomeroys would lead after the first quarter 20-17 but a 14-point 2nd quarter from WVU Tech's Brianna Ball would give the Golden Bears a lead they wouldn't lose the rest of the night.
- The team's solid 3-pt shooting would help to keep them in the game, especially from sharpshooter Sydney Ingram.
- SMWC pulled down just 25 rebounds to WVUT's 51.
