The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods men's basketball team dropped its home opener to Simmons College 73-58 on Thursday at Hamilton Arena.
The Pomeroys and Falcons were tied 30-30 at halftime, but the visiting Falcons went on a 14-2 run to start the second half.
SMWC struggled to mount a rally due to struggles at the free-throw line, finishing 11 for 20 at the charity stripe. The Pomeroys also had 23 turnovers.
Tarik Dixon led the way with 20 points, hitting 8 for 14 overall and 4 for 6 from 3-point range. But SMWC shot 36 percent in the second half to suffer its first loss.
Keith Germain saw his first action of the season and connected for 12 points to go with four blocks and a steal.
