Box Score The Pomeroys men's basketball team looked for a rebound performance after losing to Simmons College of Kentucky last Saturday as they traveled to Miami University (Hamilton) to face the Harriers. The Pomeroys were trailing the Harriers 30-13 at one point in the first half before they were able to chip away at the Harriers lead, only trailing 37-26 at halftime.
The Pomeroys would come out of the second half with tighter pressure defensively causing the Harriers to miss tough shots and forced 13 turnovers to mount a comeback and getting their first lead of the game with 12:10 remaining in the second half. The Pomeroys would go back and forth with the Harriers from then on before pulling away late in the game and secure the victory 81-76.
The Pomeroys were led by Keith Germain with 16 points, followed by Tarik Dixon with 12 points. Aaron Collins contributed 10 points and Gavin Miller was big off the bench scoring nine points. Miller has had five rebound and two steals for the Pomeroys. Germain and JJ Evans both led the team in rebounding with six a piece.
The Harriers are a team that will play tough with any opponent they face, no matter what division they are. "They went up and played Stony Brook (Division 1 school) tough last week," said Coach Hunter. "They took #2 ranked Thomas Moore to the wire last week so we were prepared and weren't going to underestimate them."
A comeback win like this against a strong team is big for the Pomeroys. "Every game isn't supposed to be easy, I let the guys know that at halftime," said Head Coach Mike Hunter. "We are on the road and every win on the road is a great win. Their style of basketball is tough to replicate in practice, with the pass, cutting, and backdoor with their size and you don't see that every day."
The team's depth was key for the Pomeroys to make the comeback against the Harriers. "We have four of the best bigs," said Coach Hunter, "If one guy doesn't have it, then the next guy has it and if not then it's the next guy. Our depth was key, and Davin (Miller) was a part of that depth. Our rotation is going to be tough to deal with."
The Pomeroys improve to 3-1 on the season and will travel for their next game on Saturday to Richmond, Ind to begin conference play at IU East at 3:00 pm.
