The SMWC women's basketball team suffered its worst offensive performance of the season Saturday, falling by a score of 73-40 to host Ave Maria University.
The Pomeroys shot a season-low 19.4 percent from the field and 4 of 25 from 3-point range. 
SMWC had a 3 1/2 minute scoreless drought in the first quarter, allowing Ave Maria to take a 23-14 lead after the period. 
The Pomeroys' struggles continued in the second quarter with a 2-for-15 shooting performance. SMWC's defense was strong enough to keep it a nine-point deficit at halftime. 
Ave Maria hit five 3-pointers in the third quarter to stretch their lead as large as 25. The Gyrenes shot 58.8 percent in the quarter. 
Irye Gomez scored all eight of her points in the first half to lead the Pomeroys.
