Pomeroys open home schedule with dominant doubleheader sweep

Commemorating championships at the SMWC Softball Field is no novel endeavor.
The Pomeroys (5-5), winners of 12 USCAA national championships, celebrated that past with the unveiling of the first River States Conference Championship banner Tuesday.
The team gathered in left field to see it unroll, then they circled around the bases to rack up 33 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Harris-Stowe.
Between games, SMWC recognized more than a dozen Pomeroys either signed to join the program in 2023, 2024 or 2026.
"It was a great day to honor the past, present and future Pomeroys," coach Jim Walker said.
Summer Rocha (3-1) tossed a five-inning no-hitter in the opener, a 13-0 victory for the home team. Lanna Martinez (2-0) and Gracie Ables combined for a no-hitter in the 20-0 victory that followed.
"The pitchers did a good job of attacking the strike zone. For us to throw two no-hitter is getting us where we need to be," Walker said.
The offense was clicking as well.
2022 RSC Player of the Year Camryn Scott went 5 for 5 with 6 RBIs and two stolen bases.
The fifth-year senior's final home opener also provided a glimpse of the future of the program.
Freshman right-fielder Jaleigh Crawford went 5 for 6 with a double and six RBIs. Freshman Jazmine Kinzer chipped in three hits.
Sophomore Tori Lee continued her strong start to the season, reaching base three times, smacking a triple and driving in three runs to put her RSC-best RBI total at 15.
"Offensively, we scored a lot of runs, but we lost a little bit offocus towards the end of the games too, so we have to be much better than that so we can finish games," Walker said.
The Pomeroys return to facing top-notch NAIA competition this weekend in the Red Dirt Classic in Oklahoma City.
