The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods softball team lost by scores of 11-3 and 5-4 in its opening series of River States Conference action at IU Southeast.
GAME 1
The Grenadiers got off to a strong start with three runs, all unearned, in the bottom of the first and added three more in the second off
Summer Rocha (6-4), who also walked three in 1 2/3 innings.
The Pomeroys rebounded with three runs in the top of the third.
Camryn Scott drove in
Rylee Pender, who started the rally with a one-out single.
Ashley Shanks delivered a two-run single to score
Tori Lee and Scott.
IU Southeast pitcher Madison Wathen held the Pomeroys scoreless the rest of the game and the IU Southeast offense exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth off
Jasmine Kinzer.
GAME 2
The Pomeroys looked poised to rebound, scoring three in the top of the first and one in the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead.
Jaselyn Conn drove in
Emily Singleton and
Camryn Scott to start the scoring with a double to left-center field. Shanks picked up her third RBI of the day to score Conn. Singleton raced home to score on a wild pitch in the fourth.
The Grenadiers notched two runs in the third and one more in the fourth. Bailey Bennett knocked in a two-run single in the fifth to put the Grenadiers ahead. The Pomeroys' offense remained silent the rest of the game.
SMWC returns to action Tuesday at Oakland City in another RSC doubleheader against an RSC West Division foe.
