Pomeroys sweep Saturday’s doubleheader against Brescia

The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods softball team played a home conference doubleheader against Brescia on Saturday. The Pomeroys would sweep the Bearcats winning game one 7-4 and winning game two in five innings 9-1.
Lanna Martinez started in the circle for the Pomeroys in game one. She pitched a complete game giving up four earned runs on seven hits. She struck out three and walked one. The four earned runs came on two hits, a solo homerun by Smithson in the first inning and a three-run homerun in the seventh inning by L. Peyton.
The offense for the Pomeroys gave Martinez enough run support as the they got to a 7-1 lead after the fourth inning. Camryn Scott started the bottom of the first with a lead off solo homerun. Jasmine Kinzer had an RBI single and she would later score on a throwing error by Brescia when she was trying to steal third base. Tori Lee had a solo homerun in the second inning. Mikayla Mills had an RBI single in the fourth and Scott rounded out the Pomeroys scoring with a two RBI double in the fourth.
Game two was started by Kinzer in the circle. She would go three innings giving up the one earned run the Bearcats scored on two hits. She also had one strikeout and walked nobody.
Summer Rocha would come in and finish the game pitching two innings and only giving up one hit. She would strikeout one, walk one and hit another batter.
The Pomeroys scored six of their nine runs in the first inning of game two. Lee had an RBI double to start the scoring run followed by an RBI single by Lyric Krause to score Lee. Kinzer would get on by an error by the second baseman and Jaselyn Conn scored on that. Mills had an RBI double, Jaleigh Crawford scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-1 and an RBI single by Katrina Strow finished the scoring for the Pomeroys in the first inning. The rest of the scoring were long balls, a two run homerun by Crawford in the second and a solo homer by Kinzer in the fourth.
Martinez earned the win in game one improving to 6-3 on the season. Kinzer earned the win in game two improving to 1-0 in her first start of the season and Rocha earned her first save of the season in game two.
The Pomeroys improve to 16-10 overall in 6-4 in RSC play. They have a quick turnaround as they are set to face Midway in a doubleheader at the SMWC Softball Field. Game one is scheduled for 1:00 pm and game two is scheduled to start at approximately 3:00 pm.
