SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball team earned a hard fought 3-0 sweep over River States Conference rival Shawnee State on Friday night (Oct. 11) inside the Knoerle Center.
The Pomeroys improved to 23-3, 3-3 RSC while Shawnee State dropped to 10-8, 3-3 RSC. It was the annual Pink Out night inside Knoerle Center as SMWC continued its commitment to raising awareness during national Breast Cancer Awareness month.

SMWC won the match by set scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-23. The highlight of the match was the Pomeroys overcoming an 11-4 deficit in the third set to win the match. SMWC slowly crawled back into the match and got within 19-18 on an
Aden Britt service ace which forced a Shawnee State timeout. SMWC trailed 23-20 and got consecutive kills from
Alex Hernandez and
Madison Hill to draw within a point. The Pomeroys were benefactors of consecutive attack errors from Shawnee State to go ahead 24-23 and a service ace by Leishmarie Virrela sealed the 25-23 win.
Karla Melendez led the way with 13 kills and 10 digs for the double-double in the win.
Jocelyn Chavez was big on defense with 18 digs, including several that kept rallies alive in the deciding third set.
Aden Britt amassed 24 set assists in the win while
Alexis Keoho tallied 16. The Pomeroys were credited with five service aces in the match, including a pair from
Grace Geisler.
Madison Hill recorded 11 kills and an attack percentage of .348.
in the match, SMWC recorded a .246 attack percentage while limiting Shawnee State to just 34 kills and a .149 hitting percentage.
Saturday, October 12 will be a busy day inside the Knoerle Center and its begins with a River States Conference matchup against Alice Lloyd (Ky.) at 1 pm (ET) and continues at 5 pm (ET) with a matchup against Georgetown (Ky.) Georgetown and Alice Lloyd will play against each other in between the SMWC contests.Â
