SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's soccer team earned a 5-3 victory over visiting IU-Columbus in River States Conference action at the SMWC Soccer Complex on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 17).
The Pomeroys improved to 3-9, 1-2 RSC while IU-Columbus fell to 4-9-2, 0-5-1 RSC.
Jacobo Galvez scored twice to lead the offensive attack but it was IU-Columbus led 1-0 at the half off their goal in the 27th minute. Galvez leveled the score with a goal in the 57th minute off the assist from Jamie Gayol. He came back with his second goal to make it 2-1 in the 60th minute off the assist fromÂ

Valderrama earned his second assist of the contest as
Ivan Gelado scored in the 67th minute to make it 3-1. In the 75th minute, Gayol would score an unassisted goal to make it 4-1. The lead went out to 5-1 in the 81st minute whenÂ
Joao Montemor scored a goal off the third assist in the contest from Valderrame. IU-Columbus did find the goal twice in the final 10 minutes for the 5-3 victory.
Harry Jackson earned the victory in goal as he recorded five saves in the contest.
The Pomeroys owned a 22-10 edge in shots in the contest including a 14-8 cushion in shots on goal. Gayol posted seven shots in the contest including a trio of shots on goal. Galvez and Gelado also owned three shots in goal in the contest.
The Pomeroys have a quick turnaround for their next match when they host Midway (Ky.) at 4:30 p.m. (ET) at the SMWC Soccer Complex on Saturday, October 19.
