RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's soccer team scored early, but surrendered two goals later to fall 2-1 to home standing IU-East in River States Conference action.
The Pomeroys fell to 4-10-0, 1-4-0 RSC while IU-East improved to 7-6-0, 2-3-0 RSC. SMWC still needs at least one win and one tie in their remaining three contests to reach the top six of the River States Conference standings and advance to the league's postseason tournament.
Ivan Gelado scored a goal in the 16th minute off the assist from
Jacobo Galvez to stake the Pomeroys to an early 1-0 lead. They made it stand up until the Red Wolves tied the contest in the 74th minute and IU-East took the lead for good in the 84th minute for the 2-1 victory.
SMWC was the aggressor offensively in the contest holding 16-10 edge in shots, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Jamie Gayol and
Marc Valderrama each posted four shots in the contest while Gayol held the team lead with a pair of shots on goal.
Harry Jackson spent all 90 minutes in goal for the Pomeroys and recorded three saves in the contest.
SMWC has three regular season matches remaining on the schedule and their next opportunity comes on Saturday, October 26 when they travel to Shawnee State (Ohio) for a 5:30 pm (ET) kickoff.
