OWENSBORO, Ky. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's basketball team opened River States Conference play with a 76-57 victory at Brescia (Ky.) on Tuesday (Nov. 26) evening.
The Pomeroys are now 7-2, 1-0 RSC while Brescia fell to 1-5, 0-1 RSC. SMWC was tabbed as the River States Conference preseason favorite and have now rattled off seven victories in a row. They will travel to Concordia (Mich.) on December 3 for a 7 pm (ET) tipoff in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Greg Jenkins led the attack with 27 points and 14 rebounds in the win. He hit 11-of-16 shots from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers. He added five assists.
Taeron Hogg added 12 points while
Taray Howell posted 11 points in hitting 5-of-10 shots from the field. As a team, the Pomeroys connected on 31-of-59 shots (52.5 percent) and added 44 rebounds with 12 steals.
SMWC scored the first 21 points of the game in the first six minutes beginning on a Jenkins jumper and ending with a Jenkins lay-up at the 14:15 mark. Brescia did not score a field goal until there was 11:44 left in the first half when they connected on a 3-pointers to trim the Pomeroy advantage down to 23-4. Jenkins connected on a 3-pointer in the waning moments of the opening half for a 46-20 lead at the break.Â
Malik Talismore would score with just under 30 seconds remaining to secure the 76-57 victory.
