SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's basketball standout Shon Tupuola has been named the River States Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the sixth time this season following two impressive performances in leading the Pomeroys to victories over Shawnee State and Rio Grande.
Tupuola, a dominant presence on both ends of the court, averaged 16 points and 13 rebounds per game while contributing to SMWC's hard-fought home wins. He recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Rio Grande (71-63), following up a 14-point, 16-rebound effort against Shawnee State (77-70).
The senior forward was also an efficient shooter, converting 15 of his 22 field-goal attempts (68.2%) over the two games. He added three assists, five blocked shots, and a steal, further solidifying his defensive prowess. Tupuola's four-block performance in the win over Shawnee State was a standout defensive effort.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on Tuesday, February 4, when they host Brescia (Ky.) at 5:30 p.m. (ET) inside Knoerle Center. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the team, with a chance to pick up a free T-shirt.
