SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's basketball set a new program record for points scored in a 120-48 win over visiting Moody Bible Institute on Saturday (Dec. 14) afternoon inside the Knoerle Center.
It was the 10
th consecutive win for the Pomeroys as they improved to 10-2 on the season while Moody dropped to 2-10. SMWC will travel to Southeast Missouri State for an exhibition contest on Sunday while the next regular season game will be against Marian (Ind.) on Saturday, December 21 at 1 pm (ET) inside Knoerle Center. It will be a key non-conference matchup in a game between two teams that advanced to the NAIA National Tournament in 2024.
The 120 points scored is a new school record which tops the 114 that SMWC tallied in the season opening contest against Trinity Christian (Ill.). Eight Pomeroys reached double figures scoring including a career-high 18 from Andre Irvin, Jr.
DaMeriz Merriweather posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Irvin, Jr., was 8-of-10 from the field and made both of his 3-pointers while Merriweather was 6-of-10 from the field and made a trio of trifectas in the win.
SMWC hit 66.2 percent of their shots from the field (51-of-77) and connected on a total of seven 3-pointers. They posted a 53-22 advantage in rebounds in the contest.

The Pomeroys owned a 76-12 edge in points scored in the paint during the game. Bonds led the way with three blocked shots while Merriweather was the leader with four steals.
Jesse Burdick posted seven assists as the Pomeroys recorded 34 as a team.
The game opened with a Moody Bible 3-pointer on their opening possession but then the defense clamped down and did not allow a point for nearly 11 minutes as they went on a 33-0 run which put the game out of reach early. Another 11-0 spurt late in the first half gave the Pomeroys a 61-14 lead at the break.
