SMWC Softball Earns Convincing 9-0 and 12-0 Sweep Over Lyon

BATESVILLE, Ark. -- Saint Mary-of-the-Woods relied on early offense and strong pitching to earn a 9-0 and 12-0 doubleheader sweep over Lyon College in softball action on Sunday.

GAME ONE RECAP

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods scored seven runs in the second inning, recorded 15 total hits, and held Lyon to just two hits in a 9-0 victory.  Hannah Boardman opened the scoring with a 2-run home run to jump start the offense in a 7-run second inning.

Key offensive performers included Jaselyn Conn with three hits, including two doubles, two RBIs, two stolen bases and one run scored; and Lyric Krause with a double, two singles, two RBIs and one run scored.

The offense was more than enough for Marin Jacobs to pick up the complete game victory.  Jacobs allowed just two hits with six strikeouts for her first college shutout.

GAME TWO RECAP

In the nightcap, SWMC kept the pressure on with a 6-run second inning to help gain a 12-0 victory.  The Pomeroys allowed just one hit and stole 13 bases with their aggressive offensive game plan.

Krause led the offense with three singles and three RBIs.  Henderson finished 2-2 with a triple, three runs scored and another stolen base.

Other Pomeroys with two hits included Nevaeh Pender with a double, single, run scored and RBI; Jaleigh Crawford with two singles, two RBIs and one run scored; and Hannah Boardman with two singles and one RBI.

Summer Rocha improved to 2-1 on the season with four shutout innings, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.  Lanna Martinez tossed a perfect fifth inning with one strikeout to complete the one-hitter.
