Siena Heights Takes Down SMWC Men's Volleyball

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Pomeroys fell 3-0 to the visiting Siena Heights Saints inside the Knoerle Center in men's volleyball action on Friday night. SMWC fell to 9-5, 2-3 WHAC while Siena Heights improved to 6-7, 4-5 WHAC.

Manase Fetulimoeata led the way for The Woods with six kills while Marko Zolnjan added four. Connor Orrock added 17 assists while Zolnjan was credited with four service aces. Jalen Noveda added nine digs for the Pomeroys.

Siena Heights captured the first set of the match by the score of 25-20 after opening the scoring with four consecutive points, SMWC got on the board off the Saints' attack error before the Pomeroys knotted the score at 4-all capped by a service ace from Marko Zolnjan. The Woods would be forced to play catch up the remainder of the set when a service error drew them back into the contest, but Siena Heights scored the final point to go up 1-0 in the match.

In the second set, SMWC raced out to an 8-4 cushion taking advantage of the Siena Heights offensive attack which had trouble finding its mark. The Saints would settle as they went back ahead briefly before the Pomeroys used a pair of errors to go ahead 18-17. After Sienna Heights crept back ahead, the Pomeroys benefited from an attack error but the Saints scored right away to lead 24-22 and force a SMWC timeout. The Woods was able to score a point after Siena Heights block fell out of bounds, but the Woods dropped the next point to fall 25-23.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods trailed 2-0 after the first two sets but raced out to a quick 6-2 advantage in the third set forcing a Siena Heights timeout. The Woods would lead by as many as five points at 11-6, before six of seven to go ahead 17-14. Joey Anderson made a kill to get within 17-16, but the Saints responded with three in a row to stretch their advantage out to 20-16.

SMWC returns to action for their second match of the weekend on Saturday, March 2 when they host this same Siena Heights team at Noon (ET) inside the Knoerle Center.
